Our team is now ready to start planning the basis of the website.

Where to start?

We have started off designing the body of the website by figuring out the content. When we met with our client one of the questions we asked was what pages he would like. With that we were able to make our IA diagram. Once we show it to our client and get the go ahead we’re able to start on our wireframe.

It’s important to start with the building blocks of the website before you focus on the colors and fonts. The body of the website is the first step, you need to get that done so you can find a theme to start with. Once you get the good bones of the site finished than you can start working on the colors, fonts, animations and other things.

You use the wireframe as a basis to help choose your theme, it’s like a guide. I like to use a website called Figma to create my wireframes. It’s really easy to use, and really clean. It’s also great because it allows you to create wireframes for various sized screens and collaborate with your team live.

Here’s a video tutorial on Figma, that’s great if you’re just getting started. Be sure to go check out Jesse’s channel.

Once you have a wireframe that the client is happy with you can move on to finding a theme. There are lots of different things to think about when choosing a theme. I’ll talk about it more in the next post.
