After School Showdown

Video game made in ActionScript

After School Showdown was one of the first bigger coding project that I made in ActionScript. This was also the first big group coding project that I worked on. It was a great way to learn about team dynamics and how to help each other. It was also a great learning experience as to having to rely on your team and the importance at doing your part efficiently because what you do effects everyone. There were two major parts to the project.

Graphics

My two team mates divided the work, one would focus on the backgrounds, title screen, health bars, etc. The other would work on the characters. Each member of our team came up with an idea for a character. After that my team mate got to work creating all the different frames for the characters, hand drawing them so that we could animate them.

Coding

When I started getting objects and backgrounds I could start coding. I created code to make the health go down, to animate the characters, to play music and to change the graphics to display the turns. I also made it so that only the persons’s who’s turn it is, is the only one that can press the buttons.
